Prayers to Radharani

tvad-alokana-kalahi-
damsair eva mrtam janam
tvat-padabja-milal-laksa-
bhesajair devi jivaya

O Radharani, the queen of Vrndavana, with the medicine of the red lac
from Your lotus feet, please bring back to life this person now dead
from the bites of the black snake of not seeing You.

tavaivaasmi tavaivaasmi
na jivaami tvayaa vinaa
iti vijnaaya devi tvam
naya mam caranaantikam

I am Yours alone! I am Yours alone! I cannot live without You! O
queen, please understand this and bring me to Your feet.
(from Vilapa-kusumanjali by Raghunatha dasa Gosvami)

Desiring to understand the glory of Radharani's love, the wonderful
qualities in Him that She alone relishes through Her love, and the
happiness She feels when She relishes the sweetness of His love, the
Supreme Lord Hari, richly endowed with Her emotions, appears from the
womb of Srimati Sacidevi, as the moon appears from the ocean. (CC Adi
1.6)

"Oh, Supreme Goddess of the Vrndavana forest! Your lotus feet are
brimming full of flowing rasa extract, the essential honey of
full-blown love nectars. Holding such feet to His chest, Madhupati
(Krsna), the Lord of all sweetness, extinguishes the burning fever of
Cupid. So supremely cooling, I now take shelter of them."

"That which is present deep within the heart of all the Upanisads in
the most well hidden secret; this pair of Sri Radha's divine lotus
feet is my refuge - simply full of Her own feminine dancing
playfulness." (from Radha Rasa Sudhanidhi by Srila Prabodhananda
Sarasvati Thakura)

SRI SRI RADHIKASTAKAM by Srila Raghunatha dasa Goswami

1. When will Sri Radhika, who is the crown jewel of all the
mellows, doe-eyed goddesses of fortune, who is the blissful swan
in Muravairi's lovelake, and who is the desire vine of the pious
merit of king Vrsabhanu, the foremost resident of Vraja, shower
me with Her service?

2. When will Sri Radhika, whose buttocks are adorned with a
brightly shining crimson garment, on which nice waistbells
joyfully dance and whose jug-like breasts are beautified by a
string of pearls, shower me with Her service?

3. When will Sri Radhika, whose luster belittles that of the
whorl of the best of the lotuses, whose nectarean adolescence is
scented with the camphor of youth and whose bimba-fruit-like lips
show a slight smile, shower me with Her service?

4. When will Sri Radhika, who looks at the son of the king of
Vraja (Krsna) with fearful eyes when She meets Him in the forest,
and who prays to Him with soft, sweet words and the movements of
Her eyes, shower me with Her service?

5. When will Sri Radhika, who is the very life-form of all the
housewives of Vraja, who is the object of affection for the queen
of the cowherders, Yasoda, as much as Krsna is, and whose heart
is blooming of the very charming Lalita's heart's affection for
Her, shower me with Her service?

6. When will Sri Radhika, who always strings Vaijayanti flower
garlands from flowers that She picks in the forest with Visakha,
who is the dear lover at Aghavijaya's (Krsna's) chest, and who is
the source of His fortune, shower me with Her service?

7. When will Sri Radhika, who quickly runs to where Hari is
playing His flute indicating His whereabouts, whose eyes smile
when She attains Him in the kunja, but who then shyly bends Her
head down, scratching Her earholes, shower me with Her service?

8. May Sri Radhika, who blissfully plays in Her own pond, which
is filled with spotless, lotus flowers, that are touched by a
cool breeze in the evening with Her friends and Bakari (Sri
Krsna), shower me with Her service.

9. Anyone who eagerly recites this sacred Radhikastakam with a
pure mind, having given up all material desires, will please
Krsna, the son of the cowherd king, who will give that person a
place amongst Sri Radhika's own (friends or maidservants).

End of Srila Raghunatha dasa Goswami's Radhikastakam.

Sri Radha Chalisa

by Hitagopala dasa

1 Within Vraja lies the most beautiful hamlet of Raval,
that hailed Priya's full blown wish-fulfilling arrival.

2 Sri Pyari's appearance is a perennial light,
hail, hail, hail, dear blessed Barsanaite.

3 Hail most beloved daughter of Vrsabhanu, Sri Radhe,
Syamasundar Himself is forever adoring Sri Radhe.

4 Sri's advent brought exceeding joy to Kirati mother (Kirtida),
and Sriji is adored by Sridama, Her brother.

5 Sriji is the beloved life-force of Her eight confidantes,
and showers joyous boons on all the Vraja residents.

6 The governess of Vrindavan is a virtual happiness abode,
enchanting the Beloved as a precious treasure trove.

7 Your eternal consort Syam is so dearly enraptured,
who sees this their heart and very life-force are captured.

8 By Syamasundar's majestic maiden, Vraja is illuminated,
upon seeing Them, bliss relisher's heart's become fascinated.

9 Exceedingly guileless is Vrsabhanu's gracious daughter,
boundless nectar exceeding all the oceans drawn together.

10 Varsana is Your residence, Your most exclusive dwelling,
Syamasundar steals to Your palace whenever He goes strolling.

11 Ever since You arrived from the house of Vrsabhanu,
Your auspicious birth has been glorified anew.

12 Due to Your wandering through Sri Vrindavan's arbour,
the creepers like parrots chant 'Radha' with fervour.

13 Whosoever may extol Radha's name repeatedly,
will capture the Enchanter (Mohan) Himself automatically.

14 Whosoever causes Radha's name to resound lovingly,
Syamasundar without doubt will adopt him immediately.

15 Nectar-relisher-bliss potency of Kunja Bihari,
a deluge of joyousness to Pritama (Krsna) is Pyari.

16 Supreme enjoyment prevails in secluded Gaharvar grove,
bliss overflows in Prem Sarovar, reservoir of love.

17 Parrots sit on Yamuna creepers remembering Radhe, Radhe,
the creepers too, forgetting all else, say Radhe, Radhe.

18 Their limitless dramas unfold in Seva-kunja grounds,
the crest jewel abode where happiness abounds.

19 Witnessing Them repose on sofas enshrined in glory,
Their ecstasy arrests the heart and seals the memory.

20 In all three worlds Your fame stands alone,
Your divine love is bestowed upon everyone.

21 Ever youthful maiden, Vrindavan is Your residence,
thus, in all Vraja, it has gained most prominence.

22 Your wonderful frolics with Your intimate associates,
such a boon to savour, the Hero Himself it captivates.

23 Your manifestation is the lila's very force,
You are it's bliss-potency, causation and source.

24 Beloved and Her friends are ever novel and amusing,
revelling altogether, They are absolutely amazing.

25 You are the beloved governess over the Vraja circle,
therefore, Vrindavan is regarded the pinnacle.

26 The prince of Vrindavan is all-knowing, omnipresent,
His divine bliss potency is exceedingly innocent.

27 Syamasundar contemplates on Sri Yamuna's embankment,
by repeating 'Radhe, Radhe' He is granted full contentment.

28 Lo, Beloved, You are all wisdom and skillfulness,
to Your servant, as a lover, You grant happiness.

29 The infinite Absolute is revealed in Your ankle bell,
lo, Siva and Sarasvati are at a loss to tell.

30 How to describe the luster of even Your toenail,
by its brilliance thousand moons shamefully wane pale.

31 Wherever the Bliss-relisher beholds Sri Radhe,
He feels His whole life is an auspicious essay.

32 Sri Vrindavan is the repository of divine essence,
Radharani is the essence Relisher's eternal alliance.

33 Whenever Sriji wanders out of kunja-groves,
Pritam shades Her with His crown as She roves.

34 Whenever the novel young maiden wanders 'round,
Priya anoints His eyes where Her feet touched the ground.

35 Due to this anointment, His good fortune swells,
body and mind become as if studded with jewels.

36 Merciful one! Your compassion is a mine of abundance,
to Your devotees You never show the least annoyance.

37 Whosoever seeks shelter at Sri Priya's lotus feet,
Syamasundar Himself will immediately entreat.

38 Priye, I beseech You to make me Your servant,
I yearn only to become Your palace attendant.

39 I beseech You to without delay bestow Your grace,
Your humble companion remains at Your feet in service.

40 O Syamaju, in every way You are my sanctuary,
You are Hitagopala's joyous abode, beloved Pyari.

By fixing Your heart on the adorations of Radha daily in the morning hour,
You will swiftly be retained for service in Her own palatial bower.

Magnificent bliss relisher, veritable personification of auspiciousness,
Your splendid manifestation perpetually dwells in the kunja joyfulness.

Salutations

Due to Guru's glorious lotus feet Vrindavan's groves become my residence
I narrate Sri Radha Chalisa to rekindle the bliss relisher's love radiance.

to extoll the glories of Priya's feet, the illimitable full-blown lotus.

Beloved grace potency, benevolent beloved par-excellence
Your joyous amusements in the grove are Your lover's life essence.

Veritable abode of happiness, my One-without-second life spring
Vraja Vrindavan Swamini and companions are most astonishing.

Sri Svapna-vilasamrtastaka
Eight Prayers Describing Nectar Pastimes in a Dream

by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura

1 priya svapne drsta saridina-sutevatra pulinam
yatha vrndaranye natana-patavas tatra bahavah
mrdangadyam vadyam vividham iha kascid dvija-manih
sa vidyud-gaurangah ksipati jagatim prema-jaladhau

Srimati Radharani said: Beloved, in a dream I saw a river shore like
the Yamuna here. There were many expert dancers as in Vrndavana. There
were mrdangas and other instruments. There was a brahmana jewel as
splendid as lightning who was tossing the universe into an ocean of
pure love.

2 kadacit krsneti pralapati rudan karhicid asau
kva radhe ha heti svasiti patati projjhati dhrtim
nataty ullasena kvacid api ganaih svaih pranayibhis
trnadi-brahmantam jagad atitaram rodayati sah

Sometimes He calls out: "O Krsna!" and sometimes He sighs: "O Radha,
where are You?" Sometimes He falls to the ground, sometimes He acts
wildly, losing all composure, and sometimes He dances ecstatically
with His loving associates. He has made all the residents of this
world, from the blades of grass up to Lord Brahma, loudly call out the
name of Krsna.

3 tato buddhir bhranta mama samajani preksya kim aho
bhavet so 'yam kantah kim ayam aham evasmi na parah
aham cet kva preyan mama sa kila cet kvaham iti me
bhramo bhuyo bhuyan abhavad atha nidram gatavati

As I gazed at Him, My intelligence became bewildered. If He is my
lover, where am I? If He is I, where is My lover? If He is My lover,
where am I? As I slept, I became more and more bewildered.

4 priye drstva tas tah kutukini maya darsita-cari
ramesadya murtir na khalu bhavati vismayam agat
katham vipro vismapayitum asakat tvam tava katham
tatha bhrantim dhatte sa hi bhavati ko hanta kim idam

Sri Krsna said: O inquisitive girl, when I showed You Narayana and My
other forms You were not surprised. Why does this brahmana surprise
You? Why does He bewilder You so You say "Who is He?"

5 iti procya prestham ksanam atha paramrsya ramano
hasann akuta jnam vyanudad atha tam kaustubha-manim
tatha diptim tene sapadi sa yatha drstim iti tad
vilasanam laksmam sthira-cara-ganaih sarvam abhavat

After speaking these words to His beloved, the smiling lover, Krsna,
touched His Kaustubha jewel. The jewel, understanding the Lord's
intent, glowed and then showed all the same pastimes and all the
moving and non moving entities She saw in her dream.

6 vibhavyatha proce priyatama maya jnatam akhilam
tavakutam yat tvam smitam atanuthas tattvam asi mam
sphutam yan navadir yad abhimatir atrapy aham iti
sphuranti me tasmad aham api sa evety anumime

Srimati Radharani reflected for a moment and said: Beloved, I know
what is in Your heart now that makes You smile. You are He. What You
have said and thought is now clear to Me, and therefore I think I am
also He.

7 yad apy asmakinam rati-padam idam kaustubha-manim
pradipyatraivadidrsad akhila-jivan api bhavan
sva-saktyavirbhuya svam akhila-vilasam pratijanam
nigadya premabdhau punar api tadahasyasi jagat

Making this Kaustubha jewel, which is so delightful to Us, shine in
this way, You have revealed Yourself to all living entities. By Your
own transcendental potency You will appear, display Your pastimes,
teach everyone, and again plunge the world into the ocean of pure
love.

8 yad uktam gargena vraja-pati-samaksam sruti-vida
bhavet pito varnah kvacid api tavaitan na hi mrsa
atah svapnah satyo mama ca na tada bhrantir abhavat
tvam evasau saksad iha yad anubhuto 'si tad-rtam

In the king of Vraja's presence, the learned Vedic scholar Gargacarya
said that You will appear with a yellow complexion. He did not lie.
This dream of Mine is true. It is not an illusion. In this dream I
have directly seen You.

9 pibed yasya svapnamrtam idam aho citta-madhupah
sa sandeha-svapnat tvaritam iha jagarti su-matih
avaptas caitanyam pranaya-jaladhau khelati yato
bhrsam dhatte tasminn atula-karunam kunja-nrpatau

If the bumble-bee of the reader's mind drinks the nectar of this
Svapna-vilasamrta, then that intelligent reader will quickly awaken
from the dream of materialistic doubt. Such a reader will attain Lord
Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He will sport in the ocean of pure love. He will
attain the peerless mercy of the king of Vrndavana.

Phala sruti

May Sri Vrsabhanu-nandini, upon hearing my astonishing prayer recited,
bestow Her most merciful side-long glance upon the speaker. At that
time one will feel all the effects of past, present and future karma
completely destroyed and gain entrance into the assembly of
Nanda-nandan's Krsna's eternal loving devotees. That aspiring devotee
who chants this prayer on the full moon day, waxing eight lunar day,
tenth lunar day, eleventh lunar day (ekadasi), and thirteenth lunar
day will find that his mind and intelligence become pure, each and
every desire will be fulfilled without fail, and by the most merciful
sidelong glance of Sri Radha, one will obtain pure ecstatic love
(prema). The aspiring devotee who recites this prayer one hundred
times while in the waters of Sri Radha Kunda up to the thighs, navel,
chest or neck attains complete perfection in religiosity, economic
development, fulfillment of desires, and liberation - the power by
which everything spoken will come true, and great opulence from
attaining transcendental majesty. At that time one gets to meet Sri
Radhika face to face, seeing Her even with one's own present eyes and
Sri Radhika becomes so pleased that She instantly bestows the greatest
benediction of being able to see her own beloved Syamasundara Krsna
with one's present eyes. Then Lord Krsna, the Lord of Vraja-dhama,
grants one entrance into His eternal ecstatic pastimes, which is the
only goal for which true Vaisnavas hanker.
