But he always seems to be running off with the wealthy goddesses of fortune, letting them literally BUY him, leaving poor Radha in the dust. When will her day come when the lord of her life at once takes her by the hand and leads her into the kunja? Does Krsna even still think of her? She's a good girl, worships him perfectly from afar, but she barely ever sees him, and even at the battlefield of Kuruksetra, all he did was talk to her and THAT'S IT!!!

Someone once asked what is higher than the Mother of God? How can one be holier than that? It was inconceivable to this person.

The Blessed Virgin Mary was conceived herself without sin, and she gave birth to Jesus. She rose up to Heaven in her own body, she never left one on earth to be desecrated. How can there be anything higher than this?

Radharani is higher than Mary. Her relationship is said to be the highest with Krishna, the father of Jesus. Jesus was pure, but compared to His father Krishna Jesus does not have His potencies in full. Similarly Mary does not have Radharani's.

If anyone takes an unbiased look at the two they will come to the same conclusion. Radharani is higher than the Mother of God. She is the holiest of the holy. Krishna is in there too. He loves Radharani and She loves Him.

The Bird in the Sage - Germany - July 8, 2007
Tridandisvami Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja
The Bird in the Sage
Germany: July 8 2007 – Part One

When Krsna departed from this world more than 5000 years ago, all the qualities of the transcendental world
left with Him. All His qualities went with Him, and then Kali-yuga entered very soon after that.

At that time, the minds of all – ladies and males, householders, brahmacaris, and even sadhus and sannyasis
– were upset. Practically everyone began to engage solely in sense gratification, and irreligious
activities were performed everywhere. Anxious for the good of the people in general, approximately 88,000
sages headed by Saunaka and others gathered on the banks of Gomati River in Naimisaranya, thinking about
what to do.

The disciple of Srila Sukadeva Gosvami, Ugrasrava Suta, was present there, and the sages addressed him, “O
Suta Gosvami, you are a disciple of the very elevated devotee, Srila Sukadeva Gosvami, who heard the
Srimad-Bhagavatam from Srila Vyasadeva himself. You also know the Vedas, Upanisads, Puranas, Mahabharata
and Ramayana, and especially Srimad-Bhagavatam. Our question is about the fact that Kali-yuga is coming.”

The sages continued:

prayenalpayusah sabhya
kalav asmin yuge janah
mandah sumanda-matayo
manda-bhagya hy upadrutah

[“O learned one, in this iron age of Kali men have but short lives. They are quarrelsome, lazy, misguided,
unlucky and, above all, always disturbed.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam, 1.1.10)]

The duration of human life is very short in this Kali-yuga; it does not last more than a hundred years.
Moreover, if one is not sense-controlled, he will live for only fifty years.

The word manda in this verse indicates that the intelligence of those in this Age is very small. The word
sumanda-matayo means that they are not intelligent. Identifying themselves with their body, they think, “My
son is mine, my wife is mine, my wealth is mine, everything in relation to my body is mine.” They do not
know who God is or who they are. They have no intelligence.

The word manda-bhagya means that they always endeavor for happiness, but instead only suffering comes –
without inviting it. Especially, old age is bound to come, and finally one must give up one’s body.

No one will go with you after you leave your body; not your dear wife, nor your children, nor your other
relatives. No one will go with you. All your wealth will stay here, and you yourself do not know where you
will go.

There are so many disturbances and problems, and so much quarreling in Kali-yuga, and sometimes there are
diseases like cancer or TB. There are always new illnesses, and one does not know when he will die.

During the reign of Ramacandra, and also during the reign of Pariksit Maharaja, the general status quo was
that a son never died before his father and no lady became a widow untimely. Everybody was happy.

Now, however, we see a son does not necessarily know the name of his father. Also, there are so many
divorces here and there. It may be that the world record for divorce in the Guinness Book of World Records
is that a lady has married and subsequently divorced more than twenty times. No one in this world can be
happy.

The sages continued speaking to Srila Suta Gosvami:

bhurini bhuri-karmani
srotavyani vibhagasah
atah sadho 'tra yat saram
samuddhrtya manisaya
bruhi bhadraya bhutanam
yenatma suprasidati

[“There are many varieties of scriptures, and in all of them there are many prescribed duties, which can be
learned only after many years of study in their various divisions. Therefore, O sage, please select the
essence of all these scriptures and explain it for the good of all living beings, that by such instruction
their hearts may be fully satisfied.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.1.11)]

By your intelligence, and by your having read all scriptures like the Vedas, the Upanisads, the Gita, and
especially the Bhagavata Purana, you can tell us what is their essence, by following which our soul will be
happy. We are not asking how this body will be happy, but we are especially asking how the soul will be
happy.”

A drunkard might think he has become greatly happy by drinking vast quantities of wine, but actually he is
not happy. One who eats the flesh of cows and thinks that he is very happy, is not happy. Such persons are
deluded. They don’t know what will be the effect of doing such things. So the sages asked, “Please tell us
the essence of all the scriptures, by knowing which our soul will be happy.”

Suta Gosvami became very happy by hearing this inquiry. He replied, “I am very fortunate, because you have
asked me a question that inspires me to remember all the sweet pastimes of Sri Krsna and His incarnations.
I will surely give you an answer.”
He then offered his obeisances to his Gurudeva:

yam pravrajantam anupetam apeta-krtyam
dvaipayano viraha-katara ajuhava
putreti tan-mayataya taravo 'bhinedus
tam sarva-bhuta-hrdayam munim anato 'smi

[“Srila Suta Gosvami said: ‘Let me offer my respectful obeisances unto that great sage Sukadeva Gosvami,
who can enter the hearts of all. When he went away to take up the renounced order of life (sannyasa),
leaving home without undergoing reformation by the sacred thread or the ceremonies observed by the higher
castes, his father, Srila Vyasadeva, fearing separation from him, cried out, "O my son!" Indeed, only the
trees, which were absorbed in the same feelings of separation, echoed in response to the begrieved father.’
” (Srimad-Bhagavatam, 1.2.2)]

Srila Sukadeva Gosvami was actually the dear parrot of Srimati Radhika – Sriyah Suka. Sriyah means ‘of
Radhika’. One day, Srimati Radhika was feeding pomegranates to that parrot. She placed him on Her hand and
told him, “O Suka, say ‘Krsna, Krsna, Krsna.’” The parrot repeated, in the same very sweet and melodious
tune and voice as Srimati Radhika's: “Krsna, Krsna, Krsna”.

The parrot then flew away from Her and went to Krsna’s home in Nandagaon, which was situated nearby. There,
Krsna was sitting with Madhu-mangala and they were talking about something. The green parrot sat on the
branch of a tree that was fully laden with dark green leaves and began to speak like Srimati Radhika:
“Krsna, Krsna, Krsna.” Krsna asked, “Where is the sound coming from? No one is here!”

He then saw that a very beautiful parrot was sitting on the tree. He very sweetly called to the parrot,
“Come on, come on,” and the parrot at once came to sit on His hand.

Krsna asked him, “What are you saying again and again?”

The parrot said, “Krsna, Krsna, Krsna,” and added, “I am very, very unlucky. My Svamini (mistress) is
Srimati Radhika. She held me on Her hand and gave me pomegranates, and She told me to repeat ‘Krsna,
Krsna.’ She is very merciful. She loves me so much. Unfortunately, however, because I have the nature of a
bird, I flew from there and I have come here.”

When Krsna heard this, He began to caress the parrot. He said, “Speak again.”

In the meantime, Lalita and Visakha arrived. They said, “O Krsna, this parrot belongs to Srimati Radhika.
She cannot live without him. Please give him to us.”

Krsna replied, “You can call him, and if he comes to you, you can take him.”

They began to call the parrot, but he did not come. They told Krsna, “If any living entity comes to You, he
will get Your affection and never go anywhere else. If Srimati Radhika comes and calls him, only then will
he come; otherwise not.

“Without this parrot, my sakhi Radhika will not be able to remain alive. She is very upset.”

Krsna replied, “I will not give him to you. If he personally wants to go, he can go.”

Then Lalita and Visakha, who were very intelligent, went to Mother Yasoda and said, “Srimati Radhika’s
parrot has come here. Our sakhi is very upset. Please take the bird and give him to us so that we can
return him to Her.”

Mother Yasoda immediately said, “Sit here and wait, I will come back very soon.” She went to the place
where Krsna was playing with the bird and said, “What nonsense are you doing? You are always playing with
birds and animals. Come with me.” She took hold of Krsna’s hand and began to take Him home. “Your father is
sitting and waiting for You to take bath and prasadam. You should go at once.”

Sri Krsna is the Supreme Lord, the Lord of Lords, but in front of Mother Yasoda He is only a baby. He is
helpless. He forgets His Godhood. He forgets that He is all-powerful.

Mother Yasoda gave the parrot to Lalita and Visakha and they returned with him to Srimati Radhika.

When Srimati Radhika and Krsna were about to conclude Their pastimes on the Earth, this parrot wanted to go
with Them to Their abode, but They told him, “After we have returned, there will be no one to tell the
residents of the world about Krsna-bhajana. It will be better if you remain here and preach
Srimad-Bhagavatam – that which Sukadeva will tell Pariksit Maharaja. So please stay here.” *[See endnote 1]

Sriya Suka remained here in this world, but he knew that without hearing Krsna’s sweet pastimes, he would
not be able to teach it. He therefore went to Kailasa, where Lord Sankara was telling Srimad-Bhagavatam to
his wife Parvati. *[See endnote 2] While Parvati was hearing, that parrot sat on a branch of a tree that
was so laden with leaves that the entire tree looked dark green.

Parvati-devi heard the First Canto, but when the subject matter of the creation of this world (sarga
visarga) came up in the Second and Third Cantos, she did not have any interest; she fell asleep. She had
been saying, “Go on.” “Very good, go on.” And when she fell asleep the parrot began to imitate her voice:
“Oh yes.” “Very good.” “Go on.” “After this?”

Sankara thought that Parvati was hearing, but when he had completed the Tenth Canto and was about to
complete the Twelfth Canto, she woke up and said, “O Lord Siva, I was sleeping. I have not heard anything.”

“Then who heard?” he asked. Looking here and there, he saw that a parrot was sitting on the very dark and
green looking branch of the tree and was saying, “Yes yes, go on.”

Sankara took up his trident and the parrot flew away. He followed the bird to kill him. Suka flew at once
towards Badarikasrama, where Srila Vyasadeva was telling the same hari-katha, Srimad-Bhagavatam, to his
wife Vitika, who was hearing with great wonder. While she was hearing the wonderful pastimes of Krsna
lifting the Govardhana Hill, the parrot entered her stomach through her mouth.

Carrying his trident and very angry, Sankara arrived there and. he said to Srila Vyasadeva, “O Srila
Vyasadeva, respectful obeisance to you.”

Srila Vyasadeva asked, “Where are you coming from? You are carrying your trident. It seems that you are
very angry.”

“Oh yes. Have you seen any parrot coming here?”

“Why are you searching for a parrot?”

“He has heard Srimad-Bhagavatam.”

“Then why do you want to kill him?”

“An unqualified person should not hear Srimad-Bhagavatam. [If an unqualified person hears what he is
unqualified to hear, he may misuse it and create chaos in society. –ed] The parrot is unqualified, and yet
he heard the whole Srimad-Bhagavatam.”

“What is the result of hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam?”

“One becomes immortal.”

“If he is immortal, how can you kill him, Sankara?”

Sankara began to laugh, and then he returned to Kailasa. The parrot was now in the womb of Srila
Vyasadeva’s wife, where he stayed for sixteen years.

After sixteen years passed, Srila Vyasadeva said, “Oh prabhu, who are you? I don’t know who you are. Why
are you giving suffering to your mother? Please come out.”

The boy said, “I will not come out, where maya is present everywhere.”

Do you know the meaning of Maya? Ma-ya – that which does not exist. It seems to be a fact that we are these
bodies, but we are not. We think that we are these bodies; this is maya. It is maya to be attached to the
body and not to Krsna, and it is because of this maya that we are suffering from the endless pain of birth
and death. We know that our forefathers have died, but we think that we will not die. This is all maya.
Creation, maintenance and destruction of this world are all maya.

So Suka told Vyasadeva, “I will not come into maya.”

Srila Vyasadeva replied, “I will remove this maya. Please come out.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“Who will you believe?”

“I will believe Krsna. If He will come and tell me to come out, I will do so.”

Krsna came there by the prayers of Vyasadeva and said, “O my son, I am Krsna. I am removing maya just for a
moment, so please come out right now.”

“I believe You,” Sukadeva said.

Krsna at once removed His maya. He personally sent the illusory energy far away so that Sukadeva Gosvami
would come out of his mother's womb, and Sukadeva came out at that moment. There was no samskara (Vedic
reformatory ritual for purifying the human being *[See Endnote 3]; no cutting of the umbilical cord. There
was no yajna-upavita (giving of brahminical initiation and the sacred thread).

Sri Sukadeva Gosvami ran away towards the forest without giving any attention to Srila Vyasadeva and his
wife. He was a brahmana and a renunciate from birth.

Vyasadeva thought, “I have written Srimad-Bhagavatam, but there is no qualified person in this world to
whom I can teach it. From his very birth, my son has no attachment to any worldly things. He is actually
qualified to hear. If he will hear, he will be able to preach this mission to the entire world.”

He began to follow his son, calling out, “O Son! O Son! O Son! Come here! Come here! Please return!” But
only an echo came from the forest: “Who is father? Who is son? Who is mother? Krsna is your father. Krsna
is your mother. Krsna is everything.” That echo came.

While Sukadeva Gosvami was entering the forest, followed by Srila Vyasadeva, there were some young heavenly
damsels called Apsaras playing naked in a pond. When Sukadeva Gosvami passed by, they continued playing
naked in the pond. However, when Srila Vyasadeva, who was very old and had very long, white hair, came by,
they at once ran away. They quickly put on their garments and offered their obeisances to Srila Vyasadeva
from very far away.

Srila Vyasadeva asked them, “Oh, my daughters of daughters of daughters, I am older than your grandfather’s
grandfather. When you saw my young, beautiful, naked son, you were not embarrassed at all. But I am so old.
You are young enough to be my great-grand-daughters, but when you saw me, you felt shame. You at once
dressed yourselves in your garments and offered obeisances. Why?”

The Apsaras replied, “Your son does not see whether someone is a man, a lady, a tree, or a creeper. He only
sees the soul and the Supersoul everywhere. But you spoke to us, addressing us as your
great-granddaughters. This is why we became so shy in front of you.”

After this, Srila Vyasadeva wrote a verse and taught it to some hunters. He told them that if they would
sing this verse, they would be able to capture many birds in the forest. They went to the forest and
recited Srila Vyasadeva’s verse:

barhapidam nata-vara-vapuh karnayoh karnikaram
bibhrad vasam kanaka-kapisam vaijayantim ca malam
randhran venor adhara-sudhayapurayan gopa-vrndair
vrndaranyam sva-pada-ramanam pravisad gita-kirtih

[Wearing a peacock-feather ornament upon His head, blue karnikara flowers on His ears, a yellow garment as
brilliant as gold, and the vaijayanti garland, Lord Krsna exhibited His transcendental form as the greatest
of dancers as He entered the forest of Vrndavana, beautifying it with the marks of His footprints. He
filled the holes of His flute with the nectar of His lips, and the cowherd boys sang His glories.
(Srimad-Bhagavatam, 10.21.5)]

This is a very beautiful description of Krsna, found in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Hearing it from the hunters,
Srila Sukadeva Gosvami was at once attracted. He came to them and asked, “Who has taught you this? Please
ask him to explain the qualities of the person described in this verse?”

The next day the hunters returned to Srila Vyasadeva, and he gave them another verse:

aho baki yam stana-kala-kutam
jighamsayapayayad apy asadhvi
lebhe gatim dhatry-ucitam tato ’nyam
kam va dayalum saranam vrajema

[“Alas, how shall I take shelter of one more merciful than He who granted the position of mother to a
she-demon although she was unfaithful and she prepared deadly poison to be sucked from her breast?”
(Srimad-Bhagavatam, 3.2.23)]

The witch Putana went to Vrndavana to kill Krsna, having put poison on her breast, but Krsna is so merciful
that after killing her He gave her a destination like a mother (His nurse). Who can be as merciful as
Krsna? Who is there to take shelter of besides Krsna?
After hearing this verse, Sukadeva came to Srila Vyasadeva, who then taught him the entire
Srimad-Bhagavatam.

As mentioned earlier, Suta Gosvami had been asked by the sages of Naimisaranya how the soul can be happy.
So now, having been requested by the sages of Naimisaranya to speak about the essence of the revealed
scriptures, Sri Suta Gosvami offered his humble obeisances to his Gurudeva, Sukadeva Gosvami, because he
was going to begin reciting Srimad-Bhagavatam.

Sri Suta Gosvami prayed:

yah svanubhavam akhila-sruti-saram ekam
adhyatma-dipam atititirsatam tamo 'ndham
samsarinam karunayaha purana-guhyam
tam vyasa-sunum upayami gurum muninam

[“Let me offer my respectful obeisances unto him , the spiritual master of all sages, the son of Vyasadeva,
who, out of his great compassion for those gross materialists who struggle to cross over the darkest
regions of material existence, spoke this most confidential supplement to the cream of Vedic knowledge,
after having personally assimilated it by experience.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.2.3)]

This Srimad-Bhagavatam is the very essence of the entire Vedic literature: the Puranas, and Mahabharata,
Ramayana, Bhagavad-Gita and all other scriptures. The Srimad-Bhagavatam is like a lamp. By the help of a
lamp we can see ourselves and others in the darkness. Similarly, by reading and following Srimad-Bhagavatam
and hearing from any bona fide Guru, we can see transcendental Krsna along with His associates and sweet
pastimes.

Srila Vyasadeva taught his son with compassion, and with great mercy for the entire world and all living
entities. We should hear Srimad-Bhagavatam.

To be continued...

[*Endnote 1 – This history is related in Sri Kavi Karnapura’s book, Ananda Vrndavana Campu.

[*Endnote 2 - The Bhagavatam is eternal and Srila Sukadeva Gosvami is eternal. The Bhagavatam is the story
of Bhagavan (the Supreme Personality of Godhead and his devotees. When it is retold and retold, the context
of each subsequent retelling is added to the text, but it is still Bhagavatam. Before it was written down
by Srila Vyasadeva, it was coming as oral tradition. Even the original four verses were called Bhagavatam
until it was gradually expanded.

So the Bhagavatam existed before Srila Vyasadeva realized it in this trance and then revised it and taught
it to Sukadeva Gosvami. Srimad-Bhagavatam (1.7.8) states: “The great sage Vyasadeva, after compiling the
Srimad-Bhagavatam and revising it, taught it to his own son, Sri Sukadeva Gosvami, who was already engaged
in self-realization.”]

[*Endnote 3 – Samskaras are impressions on the mind of previous experiences or acts done in a former state
of existence. In this context the word refers to Vedic reformatory rituals which are performed from the
time of conception until death. Their purpose is to purify the human being.]

Lalita-devi was born in the village of Karehla, and later on her father brought her to Uccagaon. Uccagaon is known as the place of her pastimes. There are still many remains of her having lived there, like a rock containing the imprints of her lotus feet. There are also imprints of some small utensils she used when she and the other sakhis fed Lord Krsna, when He would come to visit them. When the sun-rays fall on the imprints of those pots and plates, they glitter and shine. All the sakhis used to play with Krsna and Lalita in Uccagaon, and there are many places there where you can see their footprints to this day.

On the hill there is a slippery rock showing where a specific pastime was enacted in a marriage arena. There, the gopis arranged a special kind of marriage between Lalita and Krsna. This should not be misunderstood as a real marriage, but rather a play marriage, like the marriage that was once enacted between Srimati Radhika and Krsna. This is technically known as a Gandharva marriage.

In that pastime, Krsna was sitting beside Lalita, and the sakhis began to play mischievously. Visakha and some of the other sakhis tied Sri Lalita's veil to Krsna's pitambara (yellow shawl). Then suddenly, on the indication of Srimati Radhika, Rangadevi and other sakhis started to sing wedding songs, while Tungavidya and others uttered wedding mantras. The remaining sakhis showered flowers on Sri Krsna and Lalita. When Lalita noticed that something tricky was being done to her, she tried to run away; but because she was tied to Krsna's pitambara she could not do so. All the sakhis then surrounded the couple and married them.

Even today, one can see the signs of the slide on the hill, as well as the markings of ‘alta’ (red lac) from the gopi's feet. Although this pastime took place 5000 years ago, you can still visualize these signs with your own eyes.

Lalita is 27 days elder than Radharani. [According to the’ tithi’ astrological calculation, Lalita-devi's appearance day falls on the day before Srimati Radhika's appearance day.] She generally used to have the same loving mood towards both Radha and Krsna, yet she is more inclined to Srimati Radhika.

Sri Lalita-astakam:
[I offer pranama unto the haughty Sri Lalita-devi who is charmingly endowed with many beautiful, sweet qualities (sulalita). She has natural expertise in all arts (lalita), thus her seva self-manifests. She wipes away the glittering drops of perspiration which appear upon the lotus feet of Sri Radha and Madhava when They meet; and she is perpetually immersed in the most elevated mellow of sauhrda-rasa, or undivided absorption in fulfilling the heart's desire of her intimate friend Srimati Radhika. (Sri Lalitastakam, verse 1)]

There are four types of sakhis: svapaksa, vipaksa, tatastha and suhrt. Svapaksa means those sakhis who are totally favorably disposed towards Srimati Radhika. Vipaksa means those gopis who are totally favorably disposed towards Candravali and opposed to Radhika. Tatastha means those who are neutral towards Srimati Radhika and more favorably disposed towards Candravali. Suhrt means those who are more favorably disposed towards Srimati Radhika and neutral towards Candravali. Suhrt gopis never do anything unfavorable towards Srimati Radhika.

Lalita-devi and Visakha-devi are examples of gopis who are svapaksa to Srimati Radhika, Candravali is vipaksa, Bhadra is tatastha, and Syamala is suhrt.

The mood of Lalita is that she is always favorable towards the pastimes of Radha and Krsna, and she always tries to please Them. She engages in millions upon millions of endeavors to please Them, and to serve the droplets of Their activities. When Radha and Krsna meet and engage in amorous pastimes, Lalita wipes away the droplets of perspiration on Their lotus feet. This means that she is engaged day and night in the service of Their sweet pastimes.

There are two types of services in madhurya-rasa (conjugal rasa). One is in the mood of the manjaris and the other in the mood of the sakhis. Lalita always serves in the mood of a sakhi. One of her qualities is that she has some controlling nature. She can command both Radha and Krsna, but at the same time she is friendly disposed towards Them.

She is always immersed in the ocean of love. She is very beautiful and very sweet, but at the same time very sober and composed. Her heart is so sweet that she attracts the heart of all others, but at the same time she is pragalbha, which means she can speak harsh words and can thus control both Radha and Krsna.
[I offer pranama unto Sri Lalita-devi whose beautiful face mocks the brilliance of the full moon, whose eyes are ever-restless like those of a startled doe, who is famous for her extraordinary expertise in the art of dressing Srimati Radhika, and who is the treasure-house of unlimited feminine qualities. (Sri Lalitastakam, verse 2)]

This verse begins by describing Srimati Lalita-devi's beauty. She is so beautiful that her beauty surpasses the combined beauty of millions of moons. Her eyes are said to be so restless that they can defeat the restlessness of the eyes of a female deer. Her specific quality is that she is very expert in applying make-up, and especially in arranging the hair decoration of Srimati Radhika. Although all the eight principle sakhis are very famous in putting on the bodily decorations and applying the make-up of Srimati Radhika, Lalita and Visakha are the most expert. Moreover, of these two, Lalita is considered the most proficient.

The pastime of decorating Srimati Radhika by Lalita and the other sakhis is described in "Govinda-lilamrta", written by Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami, and in "Krsna-bhavanamrta," written by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura. Those who want to serve Radha and Krsna in the mood of a manjari should seriously take help from these scriptures. Sadhakas (devotional practitioners) can find pastimes such as the above-mentioned in those books, and they can try to be absorbed in them at the time of their devotional practices.

With reference to the verse above, Lalita and the other sakhis tell Srimati Radhika, "When you go to meet with Krsna, this is how You should behave with Him." They want Sri Krsna to be totally under the spell of Srimati Radhika.

While they are applying kajal, black eyeliner, they remind Srimati Radhika of Her previous pastimes with Sri Krsna. For example, once, when She was going out to meet Krsna, She forgot to put kajal on one of Her eyes, and Krsna Himself put it on, upon Her arrival. Similar pastimes are brought to the attention of Srimati Radhika at the time of putting on Her make-up, and in that way Her mood of bringing pleasure to Krsna is enhanced. When the gopis put the tilaka mark on Her forehead, they recite the kama-mantra, which still further inspires Her in Her mood of service to Krsna.

All these pastimes are arranged by Lalita-devi, and therefore she is described as the fountainhead of various wonderful qualities.

[I offer pranama unto Sri Lalita-devi whose body is adorned with a splendid sari as brilliant as the multi-colored tail-feathers of an ecstatically dancing peacock, whose breast is covered with an exceedingly attractive blouse (kanculi), whose hair part is decorated with shimmering red vermilion, and who wears various necklaces and other jeweled ornaments. Her golden complexion defeats that of even gorocana ) (a bright golden pigment that comes when rain-water from the svati-naksatra constellation hits the hoof of a cow) and she possesses innumerable good qualities. (Sri Lalitastakam, verse 3)]

In this verse a resemblance is given with a peacock. At the commencement of the rainy season, the peacock becomes very happy. The peacock has been especially gifted by God to have beautiful colors on his feathers. He expresses his happiness on seeing the clouds by spreading his wings. Srimati Lalita-devi's dresses are so beautifully ornamented and colored, that they express the mood of a peacock showing his happiness by spreading his wings. Her sari, her various kinds of necklaces and all her ornaments brilliantly glitter, and all this glittering combined with the luster of her own body give a profound impression.

The word gorocana is also mentioned in this verse. In that connection there is a particular constellation called svati-naksatra. When rain water hits the hoof of a cow it becomes yellow, like the color of turmeric. This very special yellow color defeats even the shimmer of gold. The substance gorocana is also considered very costly.

This is the impression Lalita gives when she is serving Srimati Radhika with all her paraphernalia, ornaments and beauty.
[I offer pranama unto Sri Lalita-devi, the charming treasure-house of all good qualities, who instructs Srimati Radhika in this way: "O Kalankini (unchaste one)! Radhe! Listen to my good instructions which are favorable for you! Vrajendra-nandana is very crafty (dhurta). Don't display Your mood of gentle submission (daksina bhava) to Him; instead, in all circumstances be contrary." (Sri Lalitastakam, verse 4)]
vag-bhangibhis tam acirena vilajjayantim
devim gunaih sulalitam namami

[I offer pranama unto the abode of all good qualities, the supremely charming Sri Lalita-devi, who, upon hearing Sri Krsna speak even a few sly words to Srimati Radhika, immediately becomes furious and shames Krsna with her biting, sarcastic remarks, "You are so truthful and simple-hearted, and such a chaste lover!" (Sri Lalitastakam, verse 5)]

Srimati Radhika is controlled by the extreme love of Lalita-sakhi. When She is with Lalita-sakhi, Lalita can even chastise Her: "When Krsna comes, You should remain very unsubmissive and enter a sulky mood." Radhika may reply, "What can I do? As soon as I see Krsna in the distance, My sulky mood goes away. I cannot maintain it." Then with a raised finger, Lalita says, "Don't give up your unsubmissive mood. You should chastise Krsna, for He has so many bad qualities. He is crooked and unchaste. He is a cheater. He will come to You early in the morning – and what will He do? He will hold onto Your feet and beg forgiveness. But don't believe anything He says. Don't become submissive. Instead, You should chastise Him!"

Sakhis are of two types and two moods: (1) daksina – right wing or submissive. This is called ghrta-sneha (like ghee), and it is a quality of Candravali's group. (2) vamya – contrary or unsubmissive. This is called madhu-sneha (like honey), and it is a quality of Radhika's group. [Ghee is wholesome, but without much taste, whereas honey is wholesome and also sweet]

Radhika's mood is called vamya (left-wing, contrary, or unsubmissive) and Candravali's mood is called daksina (right-wing, or submissive). Only those gopis in the mood of vamya can completely control Krsna. The two groups, that is, Radhika's group and Candravali's group, do not appreciate each other. Candravali criticizes Srimati Radhika and Her group, saying, "How can they dare to do maan (be in a sulky mood) towards Krsna? He is so sweet and lovely!" Srimati Radhika and Her group think, "Why does Candravali become so submissive towards Krsna!?" Srimati Radhika says, "One must apply a weapon to control Krsna. Why doesn't Candravali control Him like us? How can she serve Him if she is not like us?" Thus, both groups cannot appreciate each other's moods.

Lalita is the siksa-guru of all the gopis in Radhika's group, and also of Radhika Herself. Srila Rupa Gosvami writes: Lalita-devi sometimes chastises Radhika, saying, "Oh Kalankini, Oh unchaste one, [She will be called unchaste by Her in-laws, and for that reason She may try to be contrary, but Lalita-devi is telling Her here that ho matter what others say, She should still be contrary to Krsna.] don't become submissive to Krsna."

In this song, Srila Rupa Gosvami repeatedly offers his prostrated obeisances to Srimati Lalita-devi. If Sri Krsna approaches Srimati Radhika and uses some clever cheating words, Lalita-devi cannot tolerate it. In nisanta-lila, Srimati Radhika has been waiting all night for Krsna to come, and yet He doesn't come. He finally comes very early in the morning, with signs on His divine body that He has been with other gopis. Lalita-devi tells Him, "Don't come here. We don't want Your service. Where is Your beloved? You should go to her." His eyes are very red and other symptoms are there. Lalita then chastises Him, saying, "Yes, I know You, Krsna. You are very chaste, simple and honest." By her sharp and harsh words, she makes Krsna ashamed and causes Him to be shy. This is described in "Sri Krsna-bhavanamrta".

Krsna sometimes challenges the gopis in the forest: "Why have you come here? Don't you know I am Vrajendra, the King of Vrndavana? By picking flowers here, you are destroying My Vrndavana!"

At that time Lalita-devi says, "We know what kind of 'protector' You are. Actually you have never planted one seed or watered one tree. Instead, with Your hundreds of thousands of cows, it is You who destroys Vrndavana. We are the real owners of Vrndavana. We have planted every seed and watered every tree."

Krsna then says, "Don't you know who I am? I am a very religious person and I have never told a lie."

Then Srimati Lalita-devi says, "Yes, we know what type of religious person You are. We heard that when You were only seven days old, You killed a woman named Putana, who came as a mother to You. And which house in Vrndavana have You not stolen from? Are You the same religious person who stole all the clothing of the gopis? Are You the same religious person who performed rasa-lila with all the married gopis of Vrndavana?" Krsna then becomes ashamed.

[I offer pranama unto the supremely charming Sri Lalita-devi, who possesses all divine qualities; who is also the recipient of Yasoda-devi's parental affection; the guru of all the sakhis, instructing them in the art of friendship; and the very life of both Srimati Radhika and the younger brother of Baladeva. (Sri Lalitastakam, verse 6)]

Without the presence of vatsalya-rasa (parental love), the glories of madhurya-rasa (conjugal love) do not manifest. One example occurs when Srimati Radhika goes with all Her sakhis to Nandagaon to cook. Mother Yasoda is there, but there is no disturbance. When Srimati Radhika goes to Nanda-bhavana with Lalita and the asta-sakhis (Radhika's eight most intimate friends), Yasoda-devi exhibits intense parental love towards Her – not less than the parental love she has towards her son Krsna. She also shows great affection to all the other sakhis and manjaris, because of their relation with Her.

All the asta-sakhis have so many excellent qualities, and therefore Srila Rupa Gosvami writes, "Of all the gopis, the asta-sakhis are the topmost." For example, Srimati Tungavidya-devi can speak with all types of birds and animals. She understands their language and can communicate with them. What can be greater than performing services to Srimati Radhika under the guidance of Lalita and Visakha and the other asta-sakhis? Lalita and Visakha are the siksa-gurus of all the gopis in the group of Srimati Radhika.

Lalita-devi's life and soul is Srimati Radhika and Krsna. Srila Rupa Gosvami prays, "I offer pranama again and again unto Srimati Lalita-devi."

yam kam api vraja-kule vrsabhanu-jayah
["I offer pranama unto the supremely charming Sri Lalita-devi, the treasure house of all good qualities. Upon seeing any young maiden anywhere in Vraja and discerning that she is inclined towards her priya-sakhi Srimati Radhika, Lalita immediately tells Radha that She must accept this person in Her own party (svapaksa). Radha obeys Lalita, who thus fulfills that maiden's desires." (Sri Lalitastakam, verse 7)]

Lalita has many charming qualities. What is Her greatest quality – Her quality that is most favorable for the sadhakas of this world? If she sees in Vrndavana any gopi, or anyone who has even a slight touch of a scent of desire to serve Srimati Radhika, she immediately fulfills that gopi's desire and gives her the unlimited wealth of the service of Srimati Radhika's lotus feet. If one has a one-pointed desire to perform service to Srimati Radhika under the direct guidance of Srimati Lalita-devi, and furthermore under the shelter of Sri Rupa Manjari, that devotee may know that Lalita-devi's shelter is the only path by which one can achieve this.

[I offer pranama unto Sri Lalita-devi, the embodiment of all divine virtues and the foremost of all the favorite sakhis of Gokula. Her primary task is providing pleasure for Sri Radha-Govinda by arranging Their meetings – this delightful seva surpasses the enjoyment of all the best festivals combined together. (Sri Lalitastakam, verse 8)]

Without the mercy of Lalita-devi, Giriraja or Yamuna, it is not possible to enter rasa-lila. The first and greatest is Srimati Lalita-devi herself, the second is Giriraja Govardhana and the third is Yamuna or Visakha-devi.

Lalita is the same age as Srimati Radhika, or she is twenty-seven days older. [It may happen one way in one yuga (millennium) and one way in another.] Like Radhika, Lalita also has all the qualities of being a yuthesvari – able to control her own group of subservient gopis. Why is she qualified to be a yuthesvari? If Bhadra, Syamala or Candravali can become yuthesvaris, then what to speak of Lalita-devi? However, despite being the same age as Radhika and having the qualification of a yuthesvari, still, the only goal of her life is to serve Srimati Radhika and to facilitate the meeting of Sri Sri Radha and Krsna. Her only happiness is the meeting of Radha and Krsna, and to achieve that goal, she never considers any amount of discomfort or suffering.

Sri Raghunatha dasa Gosvami prays,

padabjayos tava vina vara-dasyam eva
nanyat kadapi samaye kila devi yace
sakhyaya te mama namo 'stu namo 'stu nityam
dasyaya te mama raso 'stu raso 'stu satyam

[O Goddess! I shall never pray to You for anything but the excellent service of Your lotus feet. I offer my constant obeisances unto the idea of becoming Your friend, but I truly relish the idea of becoming Your maidservant. (Vilap-kusumanjali text 16)]

"Oh, I offer my obeisances millions of times to the position of a sakhi of Srimati Radhika. But my only real desire, birth after birth, is to attain the service of Srimati Radhika in the mood of a manjari. I have no desire to become equal to Radhika, like the sakhis."

Srila Raghunatha dasa Gosvami also prays, "I will never leave the feet of Radhika to go to Krsna. Even if Krsna goes to Dvaraka and calls me there, I will not go. However, if out of some madness Radhika has somehow gone to Dvaraka, I will fly even faster than Garuda to serve Her there." (Svaniyama dasakam, verses 3 and 4)

nandann amuni lalita-guna-lalitani
padyani yah pathati nirmala-drstir astau
pritya vikarsati janam nija-vrnda-madhye
tam kirtida-pati-kulojjvala-kalpa-valli

[If a person with a cheerful and pure heart recites this astakam in praise of Lalita-devi, he will be affectionately brought into Srimati Radhika's own group of sakhis. Lalita-devi is superbly ornamented with beauty, grace and charm, and, along with Srimati Radhika, is the effulgent wish-fulfilling creeper (kalpa-valli) of Vrsabhanu Maharaja's family that winds around the kalpa-vrksa of Krsna. (Sri Lalitastakam, verse 9)]

In conclusion, Srimati Lalita-devi is the wish-fulfilling tree of the prema-seva (service in love) of Sri Sri Radha and Krsna. Whoever chants this Lalita-astakam will make Radha and Krsna happy. Moreover, Lalita-devi herself will be happy, and all our desires will be fulfilled.

I have made several devotees angry at me with just cause at Tribe and elsewhere. My purpose in coming online was to pretend to be self-realized and attract people to Krishna Consciousness.

Srila Prabhupada is self-realized and did not have to pretend or cheat, but he is not online directly, although he is in the hearts of his followers. I am not a pure devotee and therefore not a good representative of Srila Prabhupada, Lord Krishna or Radharani.

Most of the devotees can see right through the farce I was trying to perpetrate both here at Tribe and other places. I started doing my thing before there was a word "troll". I didn't mean to troll. I meant to cheat however and that is not good.

If anyone is innocent enough to have believed any of the things I said about my 'love" for Radharani I apologize. Such love is able to be developed within ISKCON more than any other place, that is all I was trying to make people realize. I may be small but my spiritual master is big. When a small boy holds on to his father's hand he can remain fearless because he knows that his father will protect him. So I wanted to tell people about Prabhupada knowing that Prabhupada is never able to be defeated. Too many devotees have left Prabhupada blaming so many reasons why. I just wanted them to know that all things are possible within Krishna Consciousness.

I am so sorry for having cheated. I just hope if anyone believed I had any kind of actual realization they go to krishna.com , and if they don't believe don't think the rest of the devotees are like me, cheaters. The proof that they are not is how much they hated me online and stalked me and drove me out and had me removed. I made up my own kind of "preaching method", and it was directly against the Vaishnava principles. But I figured that hearing about Krishna at all was better than never hearing about Him. Unfortunately hearing from the lips of a serpent causes poisonous effects. I am a serpent.

Radha, surrounded by Her sakhis, entered Her house unseen and lay down in bed. Feeling intense suffering in separation from Krsna, Radha started crying. Radha, in a voice choked with yearning, opened Her heart to Lalita.
Radha sighed, "O Lalita! You made Me believe that I wouuld meet Krsna and submerge in the nectar ocean of His loving embrace. Enticing Me, You took Me from My house and immediately brought Me back. O sakhi! What fault have I made that has denied Me the ocean of nectar?".
She speaks further of the night before, lamenting now that it is over and unsure whether it actually happened.
Lalita replied, "O Radha! Last night, Your union with Krsna made You study the protocols of nirveda(violating the rules of the scriptures). Now, separation from krsna is making You study the protocols of nirveda(despair). Union with Acyuta made You taste the sweetness of His words, lips and form. But separation tortures You like a deadly poison.
In the rapture of love, Vrsabhanunundini failed to grasp Lalita's words. Radhika, hoping to see Her cherished lord in a dream, lay down and fell asleep.

Why Vaishnavs Worship Cows?

Why worship the cows?

To answer this question we have to state a principle. We worship someone due their nature and actions. Even God is worshiped because of nature and actions. Across all religions, God is described as very merciful, benevolent, kind etc. This is his nature. He is always acting for the benefit of all, he guides us through difficult times and misery, He provides protection and provides for everyone’s welfare. These are his actions.

Cows are pure by nature. They are completely satvik. How is this? We know that cow’s urine and dung are disinfectants. This is scientifically proven. If the excreta are so purifying, what to speak of the other products – milk, butter, ghee? Secondly, cows are very simple and never harm any body. They provide milk for entire mankind. These are some simple examples.

Then there is a deeper meaning. In Sanskrit, cows are called “GO”. In Vedic culture all knowledge begins with the word “Ga”. Guru and Gayatri are the beginnings of all knowledge. All auspiciousness activities also start with the cows. No sacrifice can be done without Ghee; sacrifices are considered auspicious and ghee is required. The “Ga” signifies cows, this is a secret meaning.

For Vaishnavs (people worshiping Lord Krishna in his personal form) there is a still deeper meaning. The meaning is within the words – Govinda, Gopi, Govardhana, Goloka Vrindavan. It is clear these are the greatest. Govinda is Lord Krishna, the protector of cows, Gopis are the highest devotees, Govardhana is the best servant, and Goloka Vrindavan (“go loka - the abode of the cows ”) is the highest destination . The meaning is obvious. There is nothing without the cows. They all serve cows. Cows are the dearest to Lord Krishna, they are His deities. This is the highest form of worship of Lord Krishna and available to only a very select few devotees. Even this knowledge is very rare – most people don’t understand the exalted position of cows, they see cows as animals. People who serve Krishna ’s cows are the most fortunate and achieve all results. This is the ultimate and simplest. Its how 'goloka vrindavan' is achieved while in the material world, in the material body.

Hare Krsna.

By the magical touch of Lalita, who is non-different from Me, you have not only regained your eyesight, but you have also received my full blessings.". She instructed the saint on how to teach other people about herself.
From the same introduction to the book we read,"One evening a student sat crying in the assembly. "This morning in my meditation, I tried to fix a bracelet on Sri Pranesvari's left hand. My mind, entranced by the beauty of Radhika's hand, got locked on that vision and I could not think of anything else all day'". Satisfied with his student, the teacher said,"Your bhajana is going along just fine".
I can't honestly say my voice is choking up or my hairs are standing on end in anticipation of reading this book, however my soul must be jumping for joy in my heart. If I don't come back online tonight it will probably be because of the intense emotions I will be experiencing upon reading this book. And if I do come back on and say something from my own realizations in glorification of Srimati Radhika, then I beg forgiveness ahead of time since I am unqualified to do so. I never should have quoted Tunga Vidya Devi as if I knew what she was talking about. That was a grave offense. So I beg forgiveness from her and from all the Vaishnava devotees of the Lord.
Satyabauma had a desire to have Krisna as her own exclusive husband. For this she prayed to Narada Muni for to grant her wish. Narada Muni said, "I will fulfill this desire if you give Krisna to me." Satyabauma did so readily. For a time, it was funny to see Krsna following Narada Muni about chanting, "Narayan, Narayan...." Soon Satyabauma became worried that she had made a drastic mistake and organized all the queens to collect all their gold and add it up in order to buy Krsna back. Frantically, the queens gathered their golden crowns, bracelets and chains and brought it fast before Narada Muni, and so then Narada Muni pulled out the largest set of scales. Carefully he assisted Krisna onto one side and had the queens stack their golden attire onto the other side. All witnessed that the gold was not enough to buy Krisna. Soon Rukmini had an idea, as she retrieved a Tulasi leaf from the temple rooom, lovingly inscribed Krisna's name on it, and tossed it gently on top of the pile of gold. Now the scales had tipped, and all cheered, "Krsna is ours!"

I am sorry Sridama, I have committed a great offense towards you. I did not know you were Srimati Radharani's older brother. I only knew you were Krishna's friend. Radharani loves Krishna more than she loves her very life, and you are only helping Krishna to meet Radharani or whatever He wants. I don't know why I was so angry at you, I just thought you were favoring Krishna. But Radharani herself favors HIm.
I have only myself to blame. I read a book once a long time ago, called the Uddhava Sandesh, and it gave me the feeling I could become a blade of grass to be trampled on by the gopis. But am I equal to Uddava? No. Just because he is that qualified doesn't mean I am ever going to be.
Similarly all of the gopis and sakhis and manjaris are expansions of Srimati Radharani, aren't they? What makes me hink I will ever be qualified to be one of them? For that matter why am I drawn to serving Radharani instead of Krishna? It must be only mundane attraction since I am in material consciousness, I am projecting my polluted consciousness onto what I perceive the spiritual world to be.
So I am giving up believing I have any sort of relationship that I have already become aware of. As far as I am concerned, and this is the truth, I don't know what postion if any I will have in Vrndavana. I can only hope to become a particle of dust at Krishna's lotus feet, and what more could any living entity ask for in my position? Being puffed up and offensive I thiought I could offend Krishna and His devotees because I imagined I had a relationship of servitude toward Radharani but I don't. I am the second greatest offender on the planet, since I can't be the most anything. So now I am changing my name to...
Krishnadust!

"In order to avoid such errors," Prabhupada said. "We should understand what who Radha-Krsna actually are. Radha and Krsna display Their pastimes through Krsna's internal energy. The pleasure-potency of Krsna's internal energy is a most difficult subject matter, and unless one understands who Krsna is, he cannot understand it. Krsna does not take any pleasure in this material world, but He has a pleasure-potency. Because we are part and parcel of Krsna, the pleasure potency is within us also, but we are trying to exhibit that pleasure potency in matter. Krsna, however, does not make such a vain attempt."

Meanwhile, playing the devil's advocate, I asked myself why I should be happy to hear about the love of Radha and Krsna - and the answer immediately came. If I am part and parcel of Them, as Prabhupada says, then I am also part of that love; it's natural that I would be happy by connecting with Them. And, if Their love is full of knowledge, pleasure and eternity, it's natural that even a new person, by being even minutely connected to it by hearing, would be uplifted.

"It is not that Radharani is separate from Krsna," Prabhupada continued. "Radharani is also Krsna, for there is no difference between the energy and the energetic…Because of this, the Vaisnava philosophy first of all pays obeisances to and worships the internal pleasure potency of the Supreme Lord. Thus the Lord and His potency are always referred to as Radha-Krsna."

I made the mistake of speaking on too highly elevated subjects to members of other tribes. Now I have come to understand that if we start out telling people too much about the four headed Lord Brahma and similar other subject matters they will end up losing faith in Krishna. It seems this is what happened at a Muslim thread. This was the last straw that broke one of the members backs. He ended up leaving the tribe but he was against Krishna right from the start anyway. But speaking of Lord Brahma was irrlevant so why did I even bring it up?
Anyway here is a much sweeter topic and I hope it is proper to place it here in Radharani's tribe, since I have previously been accused of not wanting to see the Divine Couple together. I like this pastime.
Krishna has applied yellow cosmetics that the gopis put on their faces to his body in order to look like a gopi, and is pretending to be Vrnda's sister named Nikunjavidya.
Radhika: Even though I have never seen her before, I am still very eager to speak with her.(She becomes shy).
(Krishna, dressed like a gopi speaking in a gopi's voice): Sister Vrnda, is it not that Radha does not recognize Me? Still, I have seen Her thousands of times.
Vrnda:(Aside) Amazing! This is truly the voice of a woman.
Radhika: Vrnda, I do not know why My heart feels such intense love for Nukunjavidaya.
Vrnda: Friend, I know why. It is not surprising. She has loved You for a long time.
Radhika: (Joyfully approaching) O Nikunjavidya, where is your Nikunanagara(lover who meets you in these forest groves)?
(Krishna)Friend, what person knows him?
Lalita: Friend Nikunjavidya, please don't joke like this. We are your friends.
Vrnda: The smile on Nijunjavidya's face delares that she will be Your messenger. O Radha, now You should soften her by anointing her with the excellent oil of Your love.
Radhika: O Nikunjavidya, why are you not bound to Me, as Vrnda is , with the bonds of love? Vrnda, look! Nikunjavidya is affectionately smiling upon Me. I shall go and meet her. (She exits).
Vrnda: O Nikunjavidya, O beloved of the beautiful girls of Gokula, your heart if very hard. Even though this girl is your affectionater friend, you still do not please Her with an embrace.

Radha:Stop mocking Me! Look! The bakula forest stands before us. (She walks quickly and passionately.
Radha(Does that.)Clever, playful rascal, I see You. I see You. Why do you hide your limbs? (Radha searches everywhere.)

Among the six seasons, the most glorious is Vasanta, Spring. The Vasanta season is very pleasant, for the weather is neither too hot nor too cold at that time. An abundance of fragrant flowers, like beli, cameli, jui and others bloom everywhere, and flowers such as ratkerani (night queen) bloom even at night. Rivers like Ganges and Yamuna are especially clean and pure at that time, looking as though they are simply waiting for Radha and Krsna, and the lands in many places look like yellow carpets because they are full with varieties of yellow flowers. Krsna's garments are also yellow, because His most beloved Srimati Radhika has a yellowish golden complexion and He wants to be always embraced by Her.

Today is the beginning of the Vasanta season, Vasanta-Pancami, at which time the Rasa Dance of Krsna was performed in Govardhana, in the village of Parasauli, by the lake known as Candra Sarovara. At that time the gopis were dancing with Krsna for the duration of a night that became billions of years; it became as long as one entire day of Brahma. On that night the moon stood still, not moving from its best view of the sight of the dancing of Radhika and all Her sakhis with Krsna. Such beautiful pastimes were born from an ocean of rasas, sweet transcendental mellow tastes, saturated with unlimited happiness

Here we can see that bhakti, arising from sraddha, has nothing to do with one's karma. Sraddha is the natural tendency of the heart, which becomes uncovered for the conditioned souls, as one's material attachments dissipate. This begins to happen when, by chance, one comes into contact with suddha bhaktas.

darkness indicating that Krsna is returning home from the pasture. Also,
the darkness of evening provokes the gopis to meet Krsna. Thus the
pastimes of Krsna and the gopis are covered by a kind of transcendental
darkness and are therefore impossible for ordinary scholars of the Vedas
to see.'
PURPORT
This verse from the Lalita-madhava (1.23) is spoken by Paurnamasi
in a conversation with Gargi.
Krsna stated in Bhagavad-gita, traigunya-visaya veda nistraigunyo
bhavarjuna. Thus He advised Arjuna to rise above the modes of material
nature, for the entire Vedic system is filled with descriptions
involving sattva-guna, rajo-guna and tamo-guna. People are generally
covered by the quality of rajo-guna and are therefore unable to
understand the pastimes of Krsna with the gopis of Vraja. Moreover, the
quality of tamo-guna further disturbs their understanding. In Vrndavana,
however, although Krsna is covered by the hazy darkness of the dust, the
gopis can nevertheless understand that within the dust storm is Krsna.
Because they are His topmost devotees, they can perceive His hand in
everything. Thus even in the dark or in a hazy storm of dust, devotees
can understand what Krsna is doing. The purport of this verse is that
Krsna is never lost, under any circumstances, to the vision of exalted
devotees like the gopis.

"Radha and Krsna display Their pastimes through Krsna's internal energy. The pleasure potency of Krsna's internal energy is a most difficult subject matter, and unless one understands what Krsna is, one cannot understand it. Krsna does not take any pleasure in this material world, but He has a pleasure potency. Because we are part and parcel of Krsna, the pleasure potency is within us also, but we are trying to exhibit that pleasure potency in matter. Krsna, however, does not make such a vain attempt. The object of Krsna's pleasure potency is Radharani; Krsna exhibits His potency, or energy as Radharani and then engages in loving affairs with Her. In other words, Krsna does not take pleasure in this external energy but exhibits His internal energy, His pleasure potency, as Radharani. Thus Krsna manifests Himself as Radharani in order to exhibit His internal pleasure potency. Of the many extensions, expansions and incarnations of the Lord, this pleasure potency is the foremost and chief.

It is not that Radharani is separate from Krsna. Radharani is also Krsna, for there is no difference between the energy and the energetic. Without energy, there is no meaning to the energetic, and without the energetic, there is no energy. Similarly, without Radha there is no meaning to Krsna, and without Krsna there is no meaning to Radha. Because of this, the Vaisnava philosophy first of all pays obeisances to and worships the internal pleasure potency of the Supreme Lord. Thus the Lord and His potency are always referred to as Radha-Krsna. Similarly, those who worship the name of Narayana first of all utter the name of Laksmi, as Laksmi-Narayana. Similarly, those who worship Lord Rama first of all utter the name of Sita. In any case -- Sita-Rama, Radha-Krsna, Laksmi-Narayana -- the potency always comes first."
[Interviewer:] Can you please explain something about the program that was organized here at Kaliya-ghata today? Also, what are your plans for the future in this regard?

[Srila Narayana Maharaja:] We have been restoring the kundas, ghatas and forests of Vraja for the past several years. In order to do this, we have formed the Kunda Restoration Group. In this regard we arranged for the cleaning of Brahma-kunda in Govardhana. We installed water purification tanks in Radha-kunda, and the water there became clean as well. We also installed the water purification tank in Govinda-kunda in Jatipura, and its water also became clean. We have also done some work in Manasi-ganga.

In Bhandirvana, all the trees had died. We therefore planted many trees and made arrangement to preserve them. Visakha-kunda was going toward extinction. We renovated the ghata of that kunda and re-installed five feet of water. Nearby, where Krsna used to graze the cows amongst the Kadamba trees, we planted a great number of trees as well.

We are planning to make three kundas at Kaliya-ghata, and we will represent Sri Krsna playing His flute on the statue of the kaliya serpent in the middle kunda. By observing this spectacle, pilgrims will see that Sri Krsna punished Kaliya there.

[Interviewer:] What do you think about the local government and central government not doing anything about this?

[Srila Narayana Maharaja:] I understand that the central government is not actively assisting. Millions of people come to take darsana of Vraja, by which the government obtains so much money, but still they refuse to acknowledge the importance of these kundas and ghatas.

We thought we should restore all the pastime places, and the water of Yamuna should also become clean and pure. We are in the process of planting trees in Seva-kunja, because most of the plants there have died. That is where Sri Krsna performed His maha Rasa-lila, and we want to restore this holy place as well.

Many fortunate persons will assist us in these projects.

- meaning of the name: aradhyati krsnah anaya iti radha - one who devoutly worships is Radha

- sruti references: Radha is mentioned in Sama Veda and Atharva Veda. Sama Veda contains the etymological derivation of the word 'Radha': radha sabdasya vyutpattih samaveda. Nirupita is the word for Radha in Sama Veda. The word Raadhaa is a combination of four root letters: Ra, aa, Dha, aa, each having its own significance.

Ra: rephohi koti janmagham karma bhogam subhasubham (dispels the sins of a million births and liberates one from the consequences of evil deeds)

AA: akara garbha basanca, mrtyunca rogam ucchrudet (emancipates one from the cycle of birth and death and terminates diseases and death)

Dha: dhakara ayusahan ucchrudet (prevents loss of longevity)

AA: akaro bhava bhandhanah ucchrudet (frees one from the earthly bondage)

Chandogya Upanisad (of Sama Veda) 8.13.1 states: 'syamac chavalam prapadye, savalac chyamam prapadye, syamac.' 'By the help of black (syama), we shall be introduced to the service of white (savala); by the help of white (savala), we shall be introduced to the service of black (syama).' Here black indicates Krsna and white indicates the fair complected Radha.

- smriti and tantra references: SB 10.30.28 - anayaradhitah, "by her the Lord is worshiped"; Brahma-vaivarta, Garuda, Bhavisya, Brahmanda, Brahma-vaivarta, Mahabhagavata (ch. 49), Naradiya, Padma (Adi/Svarga khanda, ch. 7, Patala khanda 2.69-99), Varaha, Vayu (ch. 104), Harivamsa, Narada Pancaratra, Gita Govinda...)

'Radha' has not been mentioned in Mahabharata or even Harivamsa Purana but there is a mention of her name in Uttara and Patala Khanda of Padma Purana and in tantric treatise Pancatantra Samhita. 'Radha', however, finds a detailed analysis in Brahmavaivarta Purana, Part II, Sri Krsnajanma Khanda ('the Krsna birth episode'):
